1978

ASI was incorporated as a non-profit corporation

First application for HUD funds submitted

$1.1 million approved for construction

1980

First groundbreaking

Five sites opened

1982

Stephen Vander Schaaf became Executive Director

1984

New Beginnings for Brain Injury program added

1986

First HUD development funded in Greater Minnesota (Hibbing, Minnesota)

1989

First HUD development funded outside Minnesota (Missoula, Montana)

1990

Shared Living (Adult Foster Care) established

1992

Nevada Community Enrichment Program began

ASI expanded to Montana (Eagle Watch Estates)

1996

NCEP Receives Committee on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) Accreditation

1997

First co-sponsored site opened in California

1998

65th HUD development approved

1999

First apartment buildings in South Dakota, Tennessee and Virginia open

2000

First apartment building opens in Arizona

First residents celebrate 20 years of ASI services

2002

First apartment buildings open in Illinois and Missouri

NCEP celebrates 10th anniversary

Groundbreaking for first senior housing building in Montana

2003

ASI celebrates 25th anniversary

First apartment buildings for seniors open in Minnesota and Montana

ASI opens first apartment buildings in Alabama. Arkansas, and New Mexico

ASI receives funding for first apartment building in Wyoming

100th HUD supportive housing development funded

2004

NCEP initiates Life Skills Training Services

The Loux Center opens in Las Vegas, Nevada as NCEP’s new location

ASI receives funding for first apartment buildings in Colorado and Maine

NCEP initiates paratransit evaluations for the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada

2005

Bostrom Terrace opens in Rochester, Minnesota, named in honor of Maynard Bostrom, one of the original ASI residents and long-time Board Member who now lives in the building

2006

Minnesota Association of Rehabilitation Providers (MARP) partners with ASI service locations for community service projects

ASI preserves its 24/7/365 on-site service model in Minnesota by licensure as a Class F Home Care Provider and the provision of Assisted Living Plus Services

2007

ASI completes the transition to Assisted Living Plus services at 18 Minnesota housing locations
